Written circa 2009 - a tough year for me. I wrote and re-wrote this song many times, with different choruses, different lyrics, different sentiments. I've finally landed on this version: an expression of gratitude for the 26 years I had with my mom.
lyrics
Mother, since you have known me
I have grown, I have changed
I have scars you will never see
Where are the sirens
for our tragedies?
Don't let them fade away
For 26 years I knew your love
Hallelujah
And I will try to love as you loved
Hallelujah
Frightful, the slow unravel
The anchor undone, the sickness unnamed
No, I will never accept this change
As time pulls you further from me
I keep a candle burning within
That I will someday see you again
For 26 years I knew your love
Hallelujah
And I will try to love as you loved
Hallelujah
